Going the other way? Accra to Cape Coast
Driving from Cape Coast to Accra
From Cape Coast the road climbs out of town and runs east through Yamoransa to Mankessim, a busy market town, then past the junctions for Apam and Winneba.
The last big obstacle is Kasoa, on the Central Region border about 30 km from Accra. Coming back, it is the afternoon and Sunday-evening traffic that fills it, and it can take longer to get through than the rest of the road from Mankessim.
Past Kasoa you are on the outskirts of Accra, and the remaining distance is short but slow at rush hour.
By bus or trotro
Buses, minibuses and trotros for Accra leave from Cape Coast's main lorry stations in town, and STC also runs coaches on the route.
Most arrive at Accra's Kaneshie station, from where local trotros and taxis go on across the city.
New to trotros? Read how to ride a trotro. Fares change often, so check at the station before you travel. For live directions — by car, bus, motorbike, bicycle or on foot — open Accra on the Lincoln Navigation map. It shows road hazards other drivers have reported and the weather along the way.
Tips for the trip
- If you are driving back on a Sunday, leave Cape Coast before midday so you reach Kasoa ahead of the evening return traffic.
- Mankessim is a good stop for fuel and snacks.
- Check the live map for Kasoa before you set off.
