The road leaves Kumasi westwards through Abuakwa, then turns north-west through farming country — cocoa, plantain and cassava — in the Ashanti and Ahafo regions.
Bechem, in the Ahafo Region, is the main town on the way. From there the road continues into the Bono Region and reaches Sunyani, its capital.
Getting out of Kumasi through the western suburbs is usually the slowest part of the trip.
