Driving from Accra to Winneba
Leave Accra westwards on the N1. After about 30 km you reach Kasoa, on the Central Region border, which is the main bottleneck of the trip: at rush hour it can take longer to get through than to drive the rest.
Past Kasoa the road runs on to Winneba Junction, where you turn off for the town of Winneba on the coast.
The last stretch is quieter. Most of the time you lose is in Accra and at Kasoa, so the hour you leave matters more than the distance.
By bus or trotro
Buses, minibuses and trotros for Winneba leave from Accra's Kaneshie station and run through the day, and many Cape Coast vehicles pass the junction.
From Winneba Junction, local transport runs the short distance into town.
New to trotros? Read how to ride a trotro. Fares change often, so check at the station before you travel. For live directions — by car, bus, motorbike, bicycle or on foot — open Winneba on the Lincoln Navigation map. It shows road hazards other drivers have reported and the weather along the way.
Tips for the trip
- Time your trip to avoid Kasoa at rush hour: early morning or mid-morning is usually best leaving Accra.
- If you are going on to Cape Coast, stay on the N1 past the junction.
- Check the live map for Kasoa before you set off.
