Driving from Tamale to Larabanga
The route leaves Tamale on the N10 heading south-west to Fufulso Junction, then takes the N7 west through Busunu and Damongo to Larabanga.
Larabanga is a Sahelian-style mud mosque village and the nearest community to Mole National Park, so many visitors stop here on the way to the park gate.
The road is mostly in reasonable condition but has rougher patches and few services, so fill up in Tamale or Damongo.
By bus or trotro
Buses from Tamale to Damongo run during the day, and shared taxis and motorbikes go from Damongo to Larabanga.
Services thin out in the afternoon, so aim to leave Tamale in the morning.
New to trotros? Read how to ride a trotro. Fares change often, so check at the station before you travel. For live directions — by car, bus, motorbike, bicycle or on foot — open Larabanga on the Lincoln Navigation map. It shows road hazards other drivers have reported and the weather along the way.
Tips for the trip
- Visitors to the mosque are asked to hire a local guide and make a small contribution.
- Carry cash and water — there are few shops and no card machines in the village.
- Combine Larabanga with Mole National Park, which is a short drive on.
