Going the other way? Kumasi to Sunyani
Driving from Sunyani to Kumasi
From Sunyani the road runs south-east through farming country — cocoa, plantain and cassava — in the Bono and Ahafo regions.
Bechem, in the Ahafo Region, is the main town on the way. After it the road continues through Abuakwa and reaches Kumasi from the north-west.
Getting into Kumasi through the western suburbs is usually the slowest part of the trip.
By bus or trotro
Intercity buses and minibuses leave Sunyani for Kumasi throughout the day and usually end at Kumasi's main lorry stations, such as Kejetia.
Many buses from Sunyani to Accra also run through Kumasi.
New to trotros? Read how to ride a trotro. Fares change often, so check at the station before you travel. For live directions — by car, bus, motorbike, bicycle or on foot — open Kumasi on the Lincoln Navigation map. It shows road hazards other drivers have reported and the weather along the way.
Tips for the trip
- Avoid arriving in Kumasi at rush hour — the western approach can be slow.
- Bechem is a convenient halfway stop.
- Going on to Accra? Check the live map for the Kumasi end before you commit to the N6.
