Driving from Kumasi to Obuasi

The road leaves Kumasi southwards, the same road that carries on to Cape Coast, and runs through Bekwai to Obuasi in the Adansi area.

It is a short trip, but a busy one: the stretch out of Kumasi can be slow at rush hour and there are many trucks on the way.

If you are going further, the road continues south from Obuasi through Fomena and Assin Fosu towards Cape Coast.

By bus or trotro

Buses, minibuses and shared vehicles run between Kumasi and Obuasi throughout the day.

Vehicles for Obuasi leave when full, so the wait varies.

New to trotros? Read how to ride a trotro. Fares change often, so check at the station before you travel. For live directions — by car, bus, motorbike, bicycle or on foot — open Obuasi on the Lincoln Navigation map. It shows road hazards other drivers have reported and the weather along the way.

Tips for the trip

  • Leave Kumasi outside rush hour if you can; it is the part that costs the most time.
