Driving from Accra to Keta
The route follows the N1 east out of Accra through Tema and Dawhenya to Sogakope, where the road crosses the Volta. From there you leave the main Aflao road and head south-east to Keta by way of Dabala Junction and Anloga.
Keta sits on a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic and the Keta Lagoon. The town has an old fort and a long beach, and the surrounding Anlo area is known for its festivals and for salt and fishing.
The last stretch runs through flat, open country close to the lagoon, so it can feel slow even though the distance is short.
By bus or trotro
Buses and trotros for Keta leave from Accra's long-distance stations, usually with a change at Sogakope or Akatsi depending on what is running.
Plan to arrive in daylight: services get thinner in the evening, especially on the last leg.
New to trotros? Read how to ride a trotro. Fares change often, so check at the station before you travel. For live directions — by car, bus, motorbike, bicycle or on foot — open Keta on the Lincoln Navigation map. It shows road hazards other drivers have reported and the weather along the way.
Tips for the trip
- Sogakope is the usual stop for food and fuel.
- Check the weather in the rainy season — roads near the lagoon can be affected by flooding.
- Keta is a dead end on the lagoon strip, so plan the return trip the same way rather than looking for a loop.
