Driving from Accra to Wli Waterfalls

Take the Tema Motorway and then the N2 north-east through Kpong and Atimpoku, past the Volta Region towns, to Hohoe. From Hohoe, a local road leads to the village that is the base for the falls.

Wli is Ghana's highest waterfall, in the Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary. The walk to the lower falls takes under an hour each way through forest.

The last stretch from Hohoe is slower than the main road, so plan on getting there with time to spare before dark.

By bus or trotro

Hohoe has places to stay if you would rather split the trip across two days.

New to trotros? Read how to ride a trotro. Fares change often, so check at the station before you travel. Tips for the trip

  • Go in the morning when the light is good and the walk is cooler.
  • Wear sturdy shoes — the path can be slippery, especially in the rainy season.
  • Bring swimwear if you want to swim at the base of the lower falls.
